Hope That Rises with the Morning: Choosing Faith Over Bitterness ✨
๐ A Choice Every Believer Must Make
Life is filled with pain. Broken relationships, disappointments, unanswered prayers, unexpected losses, and difficult seasons are realities every person faces.
As Christians, especially those who believe in the present work and power of the Holy Spirit, we understand that trials are not optional—but our response to them is.
When suffering comes, we face a choice:
➡️ Will we become bitter?
➡️ Or will we choose hope?
The prophet Jeremiah stood at this crossroads.
After witnessing the destruction of Jerusalem and the suffering of his people, he poured out his grief before God in the book of Lamentations. Yet in the middle of his sorrow, he made a powerful decision to remember God’s faithfulness.
๐ The Turning Point: Remembering God’s Faithfulness
Lamentations 3:21-24 (ESV)
“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
‘The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.’”
Jeremiah did not deny his pain.
He did not pretend everything was fine.
Instead, he deliberately shifted his focus from his circumstances to God’s character.
Hope returned when he remembered who God is.
That same principle remains true for believers today.
๐ฅ Truth: The Holy Spirit Gives Hope
Biblical hope is not wishful thinking.
It is a confident expectation rooted in God’s promises and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13 (ESV)
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
Notice that hope is connected to the power of the Holy Spirit.
When our strength is gone, the Spirit strengthens us.
When our perspective becomes clouded, the Spirit reminds us of God’s promises.
When despair whispers lies, the Spirit points us back to Jesus.
The Holy Spirit does not merely comfort us; He empowers us to overcome.
⚠️ The Danger of Bitterness
Bitterness keeps us chained to yesterday’s wounds.
The longer we dwell on our hurts, the deeper those hurts can take root.
Scripture warns us about allowing bitterness to grow.
Hebrews 12:15 (ESV)
“See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no ‘root of bitterness’ springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled.”
Bitterness:
❌ Distorts our perspective
❌ Damages relationships
❌ Hinders spiritual growth
❌ Steals our joy
Hope, however, leads us toward healing and restoration.
๐ God’s Mercies Are New Every Morning
One of the most encouraging truths in Scripture is that God’s mercy never runs out.
You may feel exhausted.
You may feel disappointed.
You may feel like you have failed.
Yet God’s mercy is waiting for you again today.
Psalm 103:8-12 (ESV)
“The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever.
He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.”
Every sunrise is a reminder of God’s faithfulness.
His mercy is fresh.
His grace is sufficient.
His love is unchanging.
๐ When God Is All You Have
Jeremiah declared:
“The LORD is my portion… therefore I will hope in him.”
Sometimes God allows us to walk through seasons where earthly supports disappear.
Not to destroy us—but to teach us dependence on Him.
Many believers discover their deepest intimacy with God during their darkest seasons.
Psalm 73:26 (ESV)
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
You may not choose the trial.
But you can choose where you place your hope.
And when your hope is in Christ, it rests on an unshakable foundation.
๐ก Practical Ways to Keep Hope Alive
1. ๐ Feed on God’s Word Daily
God’s promises renew faith and strengthen hope.
Romans 10:17 (ESV)
“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
2. ๐ Pray Honestly
Like Jeremiah, bring your pain before God.
The Lord welcomes sincere prayers.
3. ๐ฅ Stay Filled with the Holy Spirit
Spend time worshiping, praying, and seeking God’s presence.
The Spirit refreshes weary hearts.
4. ๐ค Stay Connected to the Church
Isolation often magnifies discouragement.
God strengthens believers through Christian fellowship.
5. ๐ฏ Focus on God’s Character
Instead of constantly reviewing your problems, remember God’s faithfulness.
๐ Reflection Questions
๐น What difficult circumstance is challenging your hope today?
๐น Are you focusing more on your pain or on God’s promises?
๐น What practical step can you take this week to strengthen your hope in Christ?
๐น How has God shown His faithfulness to you in previous trials?
❤️ Final Encouragement
The darkest night cannot stop the sunrise.
Likewise, the hardest season cannot cancel God’s faithfulness.
Jeremiah discovered that hope returns when we remember the steadfast love of the Lord.
The same is true today.
God’s love has not changed.
His mercy has not run out.
His Spirit is still at work.
His promises are still true.
Choose hope.
Choose faith.
Choose to trust the Lord again today.
๐ Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your steadfast love that never ceases and for mercies that are new every morning. In moments of pain, disappointment, and uncertainty, help us fix our eyes on You rather than our circumstances.
Holy Spirit, fill us with fresh hope, renewed faith, and supernatural strength. Remove every root of bitterness, discouragement, and despair from our hearts. Teach us to trust Your promises even when we cannot see the outcome.
Lord Jesus, be our portion and our confidence. Help us remember Your faithfulness in every season. Let Your peace guard our hearts and minds, and let Your joy become our strength.
May our lives reflect unwavering hope in the midst of trials so that others may see Your goodness and glory.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ we pray.
Amen. ✨
