It’s Not About You—It’s All About Jesus! 🔥
Discovering True Purpose in a Self-Centered World
In a culture obsessed with “me, myself, and I,” the most radical truth we can embrace is this: It’s not about you.
Our lives were never meant to revolve around our dreams, our comfort, or our reputation. God created us for something far greater—to declare the glory of Jesus Christ to a watching world.
“For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.” (2 Corinthians 4:5 ESV)
This powerful verse from the Apostle Paul reminds us that our message, our mission, and our motivation must always point back to Jesus Christ as Lord. As Spirit-filled believers, we are called to live yielded to the Holy Spirit, empowered by His fire, and motivated by the finished work of the cross.
🌟 Why a Self-Focused Life Leads to Discouragement
It’s easy to slip into a “me-centered” mindset. Social media, entertainment, and even advertising constantly scream: Put yourself first!
But every time we forget that it’s not about us, we open the door to:
- Pride when things go well
- Fear when they don’t
- Bitterness when others disappoint us
These emotions always lead to discouragement because they keep our eyes fixed on ourselves instead of on Jesus.
Bold truth: The more self-focused we become, the more discouraged we feel. The more Christ-focused we become, the more empowered and encouraged we stay—even in hard seasons.
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” (Galatians 2:20 ESV)
When we live crucified with Christ and filled with the Holy Spirit, self fades into the background, and Jesus takes center stage.
🔥 God Has a Message He Wants to Declare Through You
You are not here by accident. God placed you on this earth with a purpose—to be a living testimony of His grace, power, and love.
Your life is a megaphone for the Gospel. But here’s the key: Your life message is not about you. It’s about Jesus Christ as Lord.
As believers, we know this isn’t just head knowledge—it’s a heart reality empowered by the Holy Spirit. When we surrender daily, the Spirit fills us afresh and gives us boldness to serve others “for Jesus’ sake.”
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses…” (Acts 1:8 ESV)
💡 The Power of Right Motivation
God is far more interested in why you’re doing something than in what you’re doing.
He looks at the motivations of your heart.
- If your motivation is selfish ambition → You’ll eventually burn out and quit.
- If your motivation is to glorify Jesus and advance His Kingdom → You’ll find supernatural strength to endure.
The love of Jesus poured out on the cross becomes our fuel. When we remember what He has done for us—dying in our place, rising again, and sending His Holy Spirit—we are motivated to serve others with joy and humility.
“For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all…” (2 Corinthians 5:14 ESV)
Practical tip: Repeat these four powerful words throughout your day:
“It’s not about me.”
Say it when praise comes. Say it when criticism hits. Say it when you feel overlooked. Keep your eyes on Jesus!
🙌 How to Live This Out Daily
- Start your day surrendered – Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and shift your focus from self to Savior.
- Serve others intentionally – Look for ways to be a servant “for Jesus’ sake.”
- Check your motives – Before any decision, ask: “Does this glorify Jesus and advance the Gospel?”
- Stay in the Word and prayer – Let Scripture renew your mind and the Spirit refresh your heart.
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3 ESV)
🙏 A Prayer to Refocus on Jesus
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the precious blood of Jesus and the power of Your Holy Spirit. Today we declare: It’s not about us—it’s all about Jesus!
Forgive us for every time we’ve made life about ourselves. Holy Spirit, fill us afresh right now. Crucify our selfish ambitions and set our hearts on fire for the glory of Christ.
Help us to serve others with Christ-like humility, motivated by Your great love. When discouragement tries to creep in, remind us of the cross and the empty tomb. Let our lives proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord in everything we do.
We surrender our plans, our pride, and our pain to You. Use us as Your servants for Jesus’ sake.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior,
Amen.
